Gr 20 August 2012
Hi guys, and Michele what a fantastic video of the trail both North and South.
Its given me the desire to go and so I have booked it in August, however, I have heard that you need to book refuges this year is that the case for tent pitches as well or just beds. Can I still go and just take it as it comes drop into a refuge and camp. I am a little confused now because if you have to book you cannot just have a day off if you want one, you are basically on a fixed schedule seems daft to me.

Hi Yorkieman,
I'm happy you liked my videos! ;) Thanks for the appreciation.
As for the booking ... Officially everybody is supposed to book. But until last year if you traveled with your own tent you could get away with it (the huts' guardians are very accommodating about it). Of course there will be some "competition" for the tent pitches (in some places) but in general that's not a big problem. I can only hope they won't enforce this rule in the future (although given the increasing number of hikers in a way it does make sense).
Best luck with your GR20

@yorkieman
I was on the GR20 in August 2011 -- bring your own tent and you are as FREE AS A BIRD, absolutely no need to reserve a place or whatever, it was not even a question when I was there. This way you can do whatever you want and enjoy sleeping in a tent as opposed to a crowded hut.

Hi we are also planning to walk the GR20 end of August using our own tents and had heard rumours of having to book camping places at each hut. I emailed the Corse National Park for clarification and they replied saying no it is not necessary to book camping places for your own tent, they recommend it (but maybe they would more money upfront). So it should be ok to turn up on the day and hopefully find a place, I think it's a case of first come, first serve.
Happy Trekking
