Calasima to Refuge Ciottulu a i Mori
I am planning a circular 2 day walk from Calasima to the Refuge Ciottulu a i Mori and back. The northen section via the Bergeries de Ballone is shown as waymarked on my map but the southern route leaving the GR20 at Bergeries de Radule is not waymarked. Has anyone walked this route and is it easy to follow? The Mare a Mare Nord is waymarked south of the path to Calasima but I don't want to end up in Albertacce and then have to hike up the road back to Calasima.
Thanks for your help,
Mark Ward

Hi Mark
I haven't walked there myself, but according to my map, there is a shortcut between the Mare a Mare Nord trail and Calasima. The crossroad is located about 3 Km above Albertacce at coordinates 42°19'13"N, 8°56'48"E. It's the point No. 10 on the map below.

I recommend to view a larger map or if you have Google Earth installed, download this KMZ.
The shortcut should be marked, but even if it isn't, you should be able to see Calasima from the crossroad and find the way pretty easily. Other possible shortcuts are between points 1 and 3, and from the points 6 and 8 down to the Mare a Mare Nord.

Thanks Marek for putting together this route on google earth. The 3D function really gives an idea of the terrain. I've just received the latest TOP25 IGN map for the area and it also shows this shortcut - worth a try I think.
Do you know what the area around the refuge Ciuttulu is like for camping? When I completed the GR20 15 years ago I skipped the stop at Ciuttulu and carried onto refuge Tighiettu so I didn't see how much shelter or flat ground there was. Looking at maps and photos of the refuge it looks pretty bleak. After the cirque my wife and I avoided the descent to Stagnu by camping next to the old Altore refuge. It seemed a good idea until we were hit by a storm and just managed to save the tent before spending the night sheltering in the ruins of the refuge. Not an experience I intend to repeat especially as we will have our 3 children in tow this time.
Thanks for your help,
Mark

Camping is possible around the refuge Ciuttulu di i Mori, however the terrain is quite rocky there and you should be ready for strong wind. See the photo of the refuge and even tents around it.
