Which portion do you suggest

We are not sure if we will be doing the full GR20, but being an avid photographer, obviously I'm going to be looking for that which will blow me away visually.....

digging around I found someones photos which show some choice landscape that really excites me.

If we are unable to do the full trek, can anyone give an enthusiastic push for one portion over the other and where the best entry & exit points for that would be?

big thanks

Brandon, the photo set you are referring to is taken in the northern part of the GR 20 and it's true that the northern part is considered more beautiful or at least interesting. On the other hand, there are such impressive views as Bavella or Plateau de Coscione in the southern part. It's difficult decision and the result more depends on weather then a place, I think.

Thanks Marek,

I am so thankful I have found a site like this....You run a tight ship and I am so impressed!

So may I ask, now that I know we will be doing the Northern leg, is it feasible to link up with the Mare a Mare without it becoming excessively long, say an eight-day hike or so? or is there a better path that will ultimately lead us to a good point of departure for our next leg of the trip to Sardinia?

thanks again!

Brandon, if I'm not wrong, you can sail to Sardinia from Propriano, Bonifacio or Porto-Vecchio, so you have a lot of options. For instance:

  1. You can complete the northern part of the GR 20 in Vizzavone, take the train to Ajaccio and then the bus to Propriano, Porto Vecchio or even Bonifacio.
  2. You can also go by train from Vizzavone to Bastia and take the bus to Porto Vecchio.
  3. You can walk to Corte via Mare a Mare Nord and then take the train either to Ajaccio or Bastia.
  4. Another escape routes to Corte go from Lac de Nino in the 6th stage through Tavignano Valley, and from Lac de Melo in the 7th stage through beautiful (yet a bit crowded in high season) Restonica Valley.
  5. If you want to avoid public transport as much as possible, you can follow the Mare a Mare Nord from Col de Verghio to its trail head in the eastern coast and then take the bus to Porto Vecchio. It would be quite a long hike though (about 11-12 days) and you would miss the most beautiful parts of the GR 20 around Lac de Nino and Lac de Melo.
