accommodation in Bastia
My husband and I plan to walk the GR20 from the south, starting in mid Sept. We arrive in Bastia in the evening and plan to catch the morning bus to Porto Vecchio, but I am struggling to find somewhere budget to stay in Bastia, that's handy for the ferry and the bus stations! We'll have to stay there on the way back, too, as it's a morning boat back to Nice. Any advice gratefully received.
cheers

Judy,
Not sure if it helps or not but I have just been to Bastia myself and was in a similar situation. We had a tent though and camped, the closest site being in l'Arinella which is just south of Bastia (about 2-3km), see map here

The campsite is not great, with pitches on soil marked out with white paint and a few rougher pitches nearer the sea. One tip though - the road that runs past the site is quite busy all through the night so don't pitch near it! Cost us 12 euros per night for 2 people and one tent. Would recommend a taxi out, it is walkable distance but not very pleasant!

There is a good selection of hotels in Bastia close to the port, gare, and bus routes. Try Hotel Univers or Hotel Napoleon. There's also a Best Western up the hill a bit, about 5 minutes walk from the gare and another 5 to the port. The bus down to Porto Vecchio leaves from the Place St Nicolas, and these hotels are just off of that.
I'd recommend staying in the same place on the way out and back. That way you can leave extra clothes, etc. for after your hike.
