How long should I allow?
Great advice here. Thanks.
One thing I am not clear on is how much time to allow. I would love to do the whole thing but only have 12 days (mid-August). Is this too ambitious? Do you think I may be a bit rushed and not enjoy it as much? How long will the days be at this kind of speed.
Average to good fitness and not a massively experienced walker. I am tempted just to do the first half N to S to Vizavona so I don't have to rush too much.
Any advice would be welcome.
Many thanks

I did it last year in 12 hiking days + 1 more day off in Corte along the way. That involved two stages doubled up - from Maganu-Petra Piana-Onda and the last two stages to Conca. They were tough, being 11hrs+!
Are you carrying everything with you? Tent? Stove? Trekking light changes the whole complexion of the route.
Basically, I am glad I did not do the hike on a tight schedule and I'm glad I had the extra day off. Had there been a single bad weather day I would have had to find some way of getting off the route and back to a major town (not easy!) because there is no way I could have doubled up. That said, some people completed it in 8 days.
It's doable in 12 days but I would consider just doing the top half from Calenzana to Vizzavona so you don't have to rush it.

Just do either the North or the South half if you don't have at least 12 walking days. 12 days is enough to do the entire trail if you double up on a few stages (easy to do, and very common). But if you rush things you'll be going faster than the other walkers, and you will miss out on the trail camaraderie.

Hi
I'm just back this week. Did the whole thing in 13 days. Involved doubling up a few stages. See http://c8h10n4o2.org/walking/gr20/ for some super human who did it in less. Would not recommend trying to do it in 12 so do either section instead. Also, travel light, very very light.
