Campsite near Bastia

We're arrive into Bastia 22nd June around mid-day for 2 wks and looking for a campsite for 2-3 days either in or somewhere relatively near to Bastia, before travelling around the island (we have a car and are camping all the way!). We not looking for any commercialism or entertainment programmes! just a nice, even simple campsite and a pool would be a bonus, at the sea would be nice too. Can anyone recommend any sites for us please? Thanks!

The nearest camping to Bastia is Les Sable Rouges a few Kls. South of the town....It is within walking distance of the Port. It does tend to be a bit of a transit camp for those making their way to the several ferries leaving form the Port. As we found out is has very busy times and very quiet times....we ourselves being walkers spent a couple of days there prior to reaching our ferry home.
Last year prior to travelling home by air from Bastia Porreta airport I stayed at Camping Esperanza which is a very friendly site. I simply walked out from the train station at Cazzamoza to reach it maybe four Kls beyond the airport and within walking distance from the sea. Very spacious with lots of shade giving trees and in the third week of June not very crowded.
Further down the East coast at Moriani maybe just less than two Kls. South of the village we have stayed at Camping Merendella a few times and is a very friendly family run site with Sea, sand and a new swimming pool within the spacious grounds. I think that the Restaurant at the entrance to the camping is also part of the complex.

tracey 1102,

Since you're driving a car, you may also want to check out the San Damiano camping (9 km south of Bastia).

I've stayed, briefly, at Les Sable Rouges and Camping Esperanza.

Les Sables Rouge is by the beach and is walking distance (about 2km) into Bastia, where the marina and citadel both look good to explore or for an evening excursion. The only bad part of that walk is an unlit footpath that takes you from the coast road upto the higher road. You have to go that way as the coast road goes through a tunnel under the citadel. The campsite is quite cramped and lively and the beach isn't great. They have a good bar and restaurant.

Camping Esperanza is quite different. It's quiet, green and partly wooded. There's plenty of space. They have a small bar and food area but don't offer much more than burgers and frites. You can walk along the road to the ocean (about 1km) but I didn't try that as we were just en-route to the airport.

Washing facilities at both were quite adequate.
