Hi

I heard a rumour that there's no biting insects in the mountains. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Trying to cut down unnecessary weight..

Cheers and happy hiking!

There are almost no mosquitoes above 1000 m elev. in the summer. And surprisingly few horseflies/deer flies either, considering the profusion of cattle roaming there. The most "biting" creatures you're likely to meet on the GR are the legendary bed bugs, infesting accommodations each summer.

Thank you!

So there are some at sea level then?

Mosquitoes are common only near the coasts yes (year-round at sea level, with a peak in june-october) and get less common as you reach higher elevations. On the GR you'll meet them with the rest of civilization: at Calenzana and Conca.
