Hi
Apologies if I am re-asking some questions:
1) Is it correct that you do not require permits or prebooking to hike the Gr20? Can one just arrive and start hiking?
2) Instead of a tent, is it acceptable to just sleep outside the huts with a simple bivvy or just under the stars? Obviously weather permitting.
3) When the reviews say that the trails are crowded in July, how bad it is?
Thank you so much for your advice
Regards

1) Yes. The only thing you might want to pre-book is bunkbeds/tents from refuges (mountain huts) or rooms at the few hotels/gites.
2) Acceptable and welcome, yes. You'll pay the same fee (7€ per night per person) as if pitching your tent, though.
3) Crowded as in "if you sit for one hour along the path, you'll see at least one hiker passing by". Yesterday there were over 100 people spending the night at the Tighjettu refuge (in- and outdoors obviously, the refuge having only ~50 beds).

July and August are usually a bit quieter than June and September, but not by much.
