Getting from Bastia Airport to Calenzana?

Hi

I need to get from Bastia Airport to Calenzana on a Sunday at the end of July? I have been told my best bet is a taxi or hitch hiking.

I am flying into Bastia on Sunday the 26th July, due to arrive about 11.00 ish. If anyone else is on similar times and wants to share a taxi to Calenzana, then please let me know.

Any ideas for approximate costs for this journey by taxi? Thanks.

Cheers

try and get the train. . . I am in corsica now and my taxi on sunday from st florent to bastia airport is booked and will cost eighty euros (about a third of your distance). A taxi from the airport to the nearest train station (carozzu)is twenty euros (a four minute drive) and a taxi from calvi to calenzana is fourty euros. We arrived last sunday and managed to get the train to calvi(after that twenty euro taxi)and in calvi we shared a taxi to calenzana (just grab the nearest couple with backpacks and share) if you are thinking of getting a taxi from bastia it will almost certainly be cheaper to hire a car and drop it off in calvi. Hertz is about one hundred and ten euros(not sure he they have an office in calvi though). A taxi will be close to two hundred euros.based on my experiences this week. . Bare in mind that my girlfriends hitch hiking thumb has has a forty percent success rate here,(it is lovely though)so that might be worth a try too.

D Morgan

We are also doing the GR20 arriving at Bastia Airport on 26 July at 09:25 and need to get to Calenzana. Have you had any luck in arranging transport. May be we could share.

Only realistic option found:

Taxi to Casamozza to catch train to Calvi then taxi to Calenzana.

Or

Taxi to Casamozza to catch train to Calvi but get off at Dolce Vita and walk 8k to Calenzana.

But we are unable at present to confirm Train times

If you want to share we could share a Taxi (cost approx 200 Euros) or share hire of car

Hi

I have not arranged transport to Calenzana yet. Seems like car hire and/or taxi is the only option on Sundays.

It would be good to share. Please feel free to email me your contact details (dnfmorgan@hotmail.com) and we can chat about the options.

Cheers

Hi DMorgan, Kevin,

Have you made any joint arrangements yet? I'm also arriving at Bastia Airport on the 26th July at 09:25. So far my plan has been to catch a train from Casamozza going to Calvi then taxi to Calenzana. If you're following the same route and if there's space for one more person, it would be great to share the taxis.

See you on the peaks!

No, nothing arranged yet.

My flight doesn't get in until 10.20, so I don't think I will be able to catch the earlier train going to Calvi (9.54 from Casamozza I think, assuming it runs on Sunday?). It seems likely that a hire car or Taxi share is my best bet.

Cheers

Hi Siga G , D Morgan

Siga G

It looks like we could be on the same flight. We are flying from Stansted arriving at 9.25.

Our plan is to take a taxi to Casamozza to catch the 10:54 train to Calvi.
We will either stay in Calvi overnight in order to buy some gas in the Super U supermarket on Monday morning and then get a taxi to Calenzana to start the GR20. The Super U closes at 1pm on Sunday.

Or

Get off at Doce Vita and then walk or taxi to Calenzana and hope we can buy gas there.

D Morgan

Sorry for not replying earlier.

You can both email or telephone me to discuss possible transport arrangements.

I will be travelling with my wife, how many off you will be travelling?

Email iamflippingmental@tiscali.co.uk

D Morgan : I have emailed my telephone number to you.

Siga G : Please email me if you which to discuss further and or exchange telephone numbers.

Cheers

Kevin

I am also arriving at 9:25 (from London Gatwick), and was planning to catch the train. Do you want to share a taxi from airport to station?

Also, how are you planning on getting from the train to the start?

Alex

Hi Siga G & Alex

I thought I had posted my contact detail last week!

I am arriving with my wife at 09:24 on the 26th July at Bastia from Stansted.

Our plan to take a taxi to Casamozza to take the train to Calvi.

We wil either depart at Calvi and get a taxi on monday to Calenzana.

or

Depart at Dolce Vita and walk or Taxi to Calenzana.

We need to get some gas which might be easier to get in Calvi.

You can email me your telephone numbers if you want to discuss travel arrangements and sharing.

Just in case you hadn't realised - there is a bus from Calvi to Calenzana - see www.corsicabus.com.

Hi

I have been told that the bus from Calvi to Calenzana does not operate on Sundays.

I got a quote for a taxi direct from Bastia Airport to Calenzana - 260 euros. Not cheap, but between 4 this might just be worth it - it will only take one and a half hours to get there. If anyone is interested in sharing let me know.

Cheers

I am v.keen on the taxi option because then I could start walking on the Sunday and not hang around and then begin on the monday - I am returning home on the sunday two weeks later and the extra day could prove invaluable in terms of completion of the walk.

I am guessing that others are in the same position regarding length of time available?

My home number is 01732842929 so get in touch if you want to discuss this further, if not I think we'll bump into eachother at the gate at Heathrow at a fairly awful time of day.

You can rent a car. This may be your only option but will be very expensive. You should also consider the return journey, as the southern end of the GR20 has very limited public transport. If you finish halfway at Vizzavona, you can get close to Bastia airport by train.

I am wanting to get from Bastia to Calenzana on Sunday 23rd August. There are 2 of us arriving 10.20am at Bastia airport, courtesy of Easyjet. At the moment the only option seems to be a bus at 16.30 or so. Anyone want to share a taxi and reduce the individual cost?

I'm looking to do the same a week later (Sun 30th Aug, 10:55 manchester arrival), if anyone is interested in the taxi option...

I don't think there are buses on the Sunday, but the train appears to be running again (see www.corsicabus.com), - if the times are right it appears a long wait for the evening train.

So walk or taxi to Casamozza for the train at 17.09 that left Bastia at 16.40. Get off at the Dolce Vita request stop (approx 19.30) and then a 8km walk or taxi to Calenzana - there's no bus to Calenzana from Calvi on Sunday either.

David Dick

yes - I don't want to wait in Bastia half the day. I've now hired a car - pick up at Bastia, drop off at Calvi at 1/3 of the cost of a taxi. I can offer 1 or 2 people a lift...

It is a drag getting from Puretta Airport to Calenzana on a sunday. I spent the whole day doing it. Arrived at Airport 10.20. Fist bus to Bastia was 12.15. (8.5 euro). Then the train to Calvi was at 4.20 costing 18 euro. I got offa couple of stops early at Lumio Calenzana and 5 of us shard a taxi from there to Calenzana. It cost 40 euros!. I got my tent up at 8pm. Quite a long day! However I was ready to go at 6am and picked up some freshly booked beignets in calenzana and was at Refuge d'ortu di u Piobbu by 1pm . Just avoiding getting drowned in a thunderstorm

Hi all,

Am I missing something? According to the train timetable here:
http://www.ter-sncf.com/Corse/carte_horaires/index.asp# (click on the bastia-calvi-hiver link on the right)
there's a train which gets you from Bastia to Calvi for much cheaper than a taxi or renting a car, even on Sundays. It also stops off at Calenzana-Lumio, though no idea how far this is from the start of the trail..

If I am indeed missing something, anybody fancy sharing transport from Bastia to Calenzana on Sat 26th sept?? :-)

cheers,

rob
