Intend to camp at the refuges this August/September.
I am looking at getting a very light weight tent. Are there a problem with midgies or anything else creepy crawly that would need me to have a 2 skin tent, or can I get away with a single skin one

Thanks in advance

Ken

Yes, I'll probably go with a one man tent.

Has anyone had any problems with condensation in the single skin ones in early September?

single skin tents always cause condensation problems....
there are several lightweight tents (around 1 to 1.5 kg) for 1 1/2 person.
otherwise I would recommend a tarp with your (evt) walking poles as tarp poles instead of a single skin tent.

There are always creeping things around and under your tent so they sure will be in your sleeping bag area aswell. pherhaps you better get a double skin tent :):)

look at terranova, exped or Hilleberg, beautiful stuff (just a few examples)

MSR tents were looking good on the GR20. def need something with a rigid freestanding frame as it is v.diff to get pegs in.

My Big Agnes Copper spur UL2 is great, weighing around 1.6kg for two persons. Highly recommended.

I believe you might want to skip the tent ...

There are tents for rent on the trail. We walked it on Sep-2009 and rent tents when the refuge was full.

Fees:
Sleep in refuge - 10 euro
Sleep in a tent - 5 euro
Rent a tent for two (in addition to 5 euro for sleeping) - 10 euro

Notice that if a couple is going to the trip, sleeping in a rented tent would cost the same as sleeping in the refuge. People might prefer to sleep in the tent to avoid the snooring

There's no concern that they may run out of tents?

A single-skin tent would not be my first choice; condensation, rain, dust, undesirable wildlife....
... but you are probably harder than me.
