Hello everyone,

Just looking for some advice really, I am currently in France but am really interested in walking the GR20. First question, have I left it to late in the year if I wanted to start within the next fortnight, ie without specialist snow/ice gear etc. I am a 24 year old male who is fairly fit and done a fair bit of hiking in the past, nothing like this challenge though,(longest walk so far a four dayer). I have been backing in france with a 15kg bag and done a fair bit of walking but no actual heavy duty training, what sort of level of fitness do you think I would need?
Secondly how much did you find that the 2/3 weeks all in all. (Excluding transport to and from corsica)?

Thanks in advance for any replies, Im sure ill have more questions when I think of them!

Tom

PS, I am possible looking for a walking partner if my friend doesnt confirm that he wishes to do it. Thank you

Tom,

Did you end up trekking Corsica last October? I am debating going this year but may only be able to do it in October. Could you tell me how the weather and accomdations were this time of year?

Thanks,

Tammy

Hi Both,
I trekked in late September last year and fell victim to the awful weather prevalent at that time. We were just unlucky, as we set off in beautiful cool air and sunshine. It's a word of warning though that the route is a different beast in driving rain, wind and lightning. Rock is slippery underfoot, you are laden and the scrambling sections are more risky. It is less comfortable too.
