GR20 in June: refuges / tents

Two of us will be hiking the GR20 in mid-end June. Must we now book the refuges in advance or is this not needed in practice? Also, are the refuges now supplying tents, as one post suggested? I would like to avoid carrying a tent! Many thanks, CM

You can get away without carrying a tent. Choices are 1) stay in hut - noisy, hot and maybe crowded. 2) stay in a provided tent - only available at some sites and striclty limited 3) Bivy - and hope the weather stays fine.
Not sure about need to book huts. Authorities tried to bring in a booking system last year but did not function very well.

I trekked there last September 2009. The hut booking system was not in evidence; IMHO it would never work anyway!
There are tents for rent; they were in various states of collapse as fas as I could see, with a couple of exceptions.
The huts are great (sure, noisy snoring and smelly trekkers!), but .... BIG problem with bed bugs and fleas. Considering the unavoidable discomforts of trekking, being covered in itchy bites is one more you do not need.
