Transport from Bastia Airport to Calvi Airport on Sunday 6th June 2010
Hi, As you are proberbly aware getting transport to Calenzana from Bastia Airport on a Sunday is a nightmare and very expensive. We are planning to hire a car from Bastia Airport at 11am and then driving it to Calvi Airport, arriving at approx 2pm. It is then about a 5 mile walk/hitchhike to Calenzana.
Is there anyone/couple out there arriving at that time (Bristol Flight) to do the GR20? If so, and you'd like to share the cost of the hire with us...Approx £30 per person for a four seater car, let me know A.s.a.p....Cheers ...Paul

Hi Mick,
We've got Two spare seats in our Peugeot 206 from Avis. Might be a bit "cosy" with gear, but as its only for about an hour and a half should be fine.
On consideration, I would suggest it would make good sense for the passengers to be dropped of with all the gear direct to Calenzana and then the drivers alone double back to Calvi airport to return the cars, therefore reducing the amount of people trying to get a lift to Calenzana.
Hope that fits in with your plans.... Regards Paul

Hi - we're also looking at transport options for an arrival at Bastia on Sun 6 June @ 10.40 (Easyjet from Manchester). Looking at the comments a one way car Hire from Bastia to Calvi looks like the best way.
However as you seem to have two full cars I'm looking for two additional people who'd be interested to share the cost of this. Is there anyone out there ........

Hi,
My friend and I are arriving by ferry to L'lle Rousse on Sunday 6th June at 8am. We'd be interested in sharing the cost of a hire car if anyone felt inclined to make the short detour to collect us on their way to Calvi or Calenzana. IanKyle - would this suit you? Our only other option is to try for the bus about 2 mins after we arrive, and I don't like our chances.
Regards
Michael

Hi Ian
I wouldn't usually post my contact details on a forum but time is getting tight. 07980 306869
I've looked at car rental and can get a 4 door corsica for £83 from airport to airport. Taxi from Calvi airport to Calenza should be around £10. Ring if you are interested. If anyone else is interested ring too in case Ian doesn't get in touch. Otherwise, I'll be offering lifts in the airport.

Hi my wife and I will be hiring a car from Bastia airport to travel to the beginning of the GR20 at approx 11.15AM on Sunday 31/07/2011. Would anyone like to join us,share the cost. The car will be approx £80.00 for the day. We would drop you at the start and take the car back to Calvi airport. The car will be big enough for 4 people plus bags, thanks.

Hi All,
I have been asked by Marek to re-post this information.
We did the GR20 from north to south September 2010.
The method we used to get to the trail head (Calenzana) from Bastia Airport, was to hire a car from Avis Car Hire (100m from airport) and then offer to share the seats and cost (approx £30 per person) with other GR20 hikers.
Once all the occupants are dropped off with gear at Calenzana, the driver can then double back to Calvi Airport (approx 6k) and drop the car off at Avis there. Then, a short taxi ride for the driver to Calenzana.....Your all set!!
This worked very well for us and the other party that joined us. It was much cheaper than the extortionate rate charged by taxi's (£200-250) and more reliable than trains/buses.
We even had time to go to Calvi beach and harbour, (well worth a short visit) before heading off for Calenzana.
BEST OF LUCK!!
Paul
