I did the gr20 a few years back and remember being to camp outside the refuges most the time. does anyone know if thats also the case for other walks like the mare a mare ones or do you 'have' to stay in gites etc?
thanks!

Eva,

As far as I know, some gites offer a ground for camping, while some others don't. Which trail are you planning to do?

hi marek,
im not too sure yet. ive only got 2.5 weeks and i thought of doing a combination of some of the trails like the mare a mare nord and mare e monti nord and/or some others to reduce travelling in between trails. im trying to reduce costs so i'd prefer to do those where camping is possible....

i have walked the mare a mare and the mare et monti in the past few years almost every night it was possible to camp on both routes both very beautiful walks but the mare et monti is a clear winner if you are trying to pick one. cicerone do a walking in corsica guide which is very handy for all the short walks on the island.

i've got another question...
do any of you know if you need to let the gite/refuge owners know in advance that you're coming if you'd need/want a meal there, although you're camping? or are they flexible enough to have an extra portion at the ready? I'd like to do a combination of the mare a mare nord and the mare et monti.
