I am taking a Sunday train from Ajaccio to Calvi on September 4th, it arrives at 2030. Are there likely to be taxis in Calvi that would take me to Calenzana or is best to find somewhere for the night then take a taxi/bus the next day?

Also does anyone know where to get gas in Ajaccio?

Hi! I think you are likely to find a taxi in Calvi, and since Calenzana is very close it shouldn't be a problem to get a ride in the evening. We arrived on an evening flight to Calvi and got a ride to Calenzana withhout problem/quite quickly. However, I went in July so it might be different in September....Good luck and please write and tell how the trip was in September; it's interesting to know:)

You'll certainly find taxis in Calvi, I was there last night at about that time and it was hopping. As for your train, it looks like you'll have a train just until Ponte Leccia and then you'll take a bus to Calvi, arriving at 20:56. The last train from Isle Rousse (the town through which you'll be passing) leaves at 19:00.

We have just finished the gr20 in 12 days Starting Sept 12th 2011. Lovely weather about 24 degrees apart from storm one day which kept us at Refuge de Prati from 11am all day. Cool at night though take a warm bag if you camp. They were brilliant 30 people slept on mattresses on the refuge floor that night. Most nights I got a bed in the refuges not having booked. Monte d'oro hotel/gite was wonderful with character and a great hostess. Caroline & Graham Denny. 2 50 year olds.

Caro, I don't know how I missed you! I also started on September 12th, but I only doubled one stage on the north section. I was at L'Onda when the storm rolled through. I don't think anybody in tents had a lot of sleep. I took a side route down to Vizzavona via Canaglia the next morning. A couple of people made it over Monte D'Oru, but some who tried turned back when the wind threatened to blow them over. I hope you had as fabulous a trek as I did! -Sarah

More on the topic of "Taxis in Calvi": I was charged 20 euro from the airport to Calvi, about a 5 minute ride, and 40 euro from Calvi to Calenzana. These prices were mid-September 2011.
