Hi, I am starting the GR20 on 26 Sept, travelling from Ireland. I realise it's late in the season but according to my guidebook the trail is fine up to mid-Oct.

Could someone please advise me whether it will be necesary to bring a tent at that time of year, as I am guessing that sleeping outside would be uncomfortable if a refuge was full.

Thank you.

we walked it in June/july this year and used a tent some of the nights, it was not uncomfortable if you picked the right spot.

its not very likely the refuges will be full at that time of year - i just did it and there were a few nights when the refuges were full, but the later you leave it, the more empty the refuges will become. good luck with it, and as you say, make sure you have enough warm stuff for the evenings - it was cold enough after sunset in early sept
