transport Vizzavona to Calvi/n - s debate

We plan to get to Calenzana around 2pm - I would consider starting the walk then to try and save some time - otherwise we have 8 days to complete north 1/2 to Vizzavona.

Our ferry departs from Calvi at 3pm on the 9th day - how long do the connections take, my concern is that we miss the ferry!! and I don't want to miss too much of the walk. Would it be better to start from Vizzavona and use the time to travel on our arrival day?? If we walk n to s, is it easy to link day 2 and 3?? Both reasonably fit.

Can I get away without a tent?

From the description of the GR20 on this website: "Taking a tent is a good idea as you cannot always guarantee that you can get into a refuge."

I'm planning to walk the northern part in September, when hopefully the trail won't be too busy. I don't own a tent. Do you think I could get away without one, or should I be thinking about buying one before I go?

Refuge d'Usciolu music

I always forget something on every trip, and this past month on the GR20 south I missed the chance to ask the Refuge d'Usciolu guardian about the music that he's playing this summer. He left on his daily mail run before I could talk with him, and his young assistant wasn't around before we left in the morning. I know he plays l'Arcusgi, but there was some other stuff I don't know.

So, if anyone here will be on the southern GR20 this year, can you take a moment and ask about this summer's musical selection? Or maybe someone who went earlier this year was organized enough to ask him. I'd be greatly appreciative to anyone who can post this info.

Corte - ref. de Saga - ref. de Manganu in one day?

Hi,
I want to ask, if it's possible to make in one day hike from Corte to ref. de Manganu across the Tavignano valley and ref. de la Saga.

I somewhere read, that from Corte to Saga it's about 4 hours and from Saga to Manganu about 6,5 hours. Are this times correct?

We have only 3 days in Corte, so we want to make trip to Manganu, next day to ref. Pietra Piana and last day to Tattone. If somebody have better idea how to spend 3 days there, I'll be glad too.

Getting away from Conca

Does anyone know how easy it is to get taxis from Conca? I have a hotel reservation near Figari/ Bonifacio for a few days after completing the GR20, and want to get there as quickly as possible!

Insect repellent needed?

I haven't read anything about this anywhere online or in guides I've read so I assume its not required but just wanted to check.

Are there any biting insects (similar to mosquitos or midges) for which insect repellent would be useful?

Calenzana Spar - does anyone know opening hours?

Hi,

We're heading for the GR20 next week. We'll arrive late one day (probably in Calenzana about 9pm direct from the airport) and will want to start walking ASAP the following day.

Just wondering what time the Spar shop will shut in the evening and what time it opens again in the morning too? The main thing I'll want to buy is some stove fuel which can't be taken on the plane.

Thanks again to everyone who contributes here. Hopefully I'll be able to do the same when I return with first hand experience!

Just found some video diaries on youtube.com of people doing the GR20. Just enter "GR20" as the search text. Gives you a good feel for the challenge, although the Cirque de la Solitude looks worse than it really is.
